Samsung seems to be working on something longtime eSIM users have been waiting for — a way to transfer their digital SIM from an iPhone to a Galaxy phone without calling customer service or scanning mysterious QR codes. The clue comes from a leaked build of One UI 8.5.
A transfer without red tape
Until now, switching phones with an eSIM has felt like a small bureaucratic adventure. But according to Android Authority, Samsung is developing a tool that could handle everything in just a few taps, no carrier involvement needed.
Screenshots from the leaked version show that the process will offer two options: transfer from Android or from iPhone. The current One UI 8 only has a generic “From another phone” choice, while the upcoming release promises a more refined approach tailored to each operating system.
When and how it might arrive
Rumor has it the One UI 8.5 beta will roll out next month. It’s still unclear whether the eSIM transfer feature will appear in the beta or only in the final release, expected to debut alongside the Galaxy S26 early next year.
Interestingly, Google has already beaten Samsung to the punch: Pixel phones support eSIM transfers from iPhones — though only for Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile subscribers in the U.S. Samsung will likely follow a similar path, starting with major carriers.
eSIM: a promise that’s almost kept
When eSIM technology first appeared, it promised freedom from plastic cards and easier mobile management. In reality, switching devices has often been trickier than swapping a physical SIM tray. Now, if Samsung and Google manage to finish what they’ve started, eSIM might finally live up to its name — “embedded,” but no longer “entangled.”
