Features and network services.
Decide what functionality your virtual number should support: receiving and/or sending SMS, making calls, or accepting voice calls.
Website or service compatibility.
If you plan to register on a messenger app, website, or another platform, make sure your provider offers virtual numbers that are accepted by these services. This information is usually available in your provider’s dashboard.
Country of origin.
Most providers offer numbers from different countries. If you need a number from a specific country, check that your provider can supply it and that it works with the site or service you’re targeting. Again, this is typically listed in the provider’s account panel.
Rental period.
Providers may offer different rental options: long-term (weeks or months), short-term (days), or even one-time use for receiving a single SMS.
